Abstract


The informal economy is still contribute for more than half of the country's Gross Domestic Product. Although the number of informal workers showed a decreasing trend in the last five years, but still have a substantial population. This paper tries to examine the informal economy from a number of existing literature. Especially of recent publications Central Bureau of Statistics and other empirical researches. The result is that the informal workers characteristics has not changed much since previous studies. The informal workers, who can be found both in the informal and formal sectors, most of them are women, live in rural areas, tend to be evenly distributed to all age groups and almost half of them are underemployed, have low education background and less income.
