Abstract


Becoming a seller sometimes becomes the choice of a community to make their living amidst of what is going on in this stressful condition. Selling is a form of entrepreneurship which can be fruitful and can help makes a living for a family. With more people become self-employed, it can reduce unemployment problem and become the right way to anticipate narrower jobs field. Although, becoming seller does not mean that it is a problem free activity, theystill have to compete with one another, as well as with the modern market in Salatiga.
From this situation, the researcher conducted a research on entrepreneurship and competitive strategies of the nine-staple sellers in Pasar Raya I Salatiga, nine-staple is nine basic items which is the primary needs of a society that can not be replaced by other items and it is an important economic element, which is often used as an economic indicator. The purpose of this study is to determine what are the entrepreneurship indicators inherent by nine-staple sellers in Pasar Raya I Salatiga and to find out what are the competitive strategies used by these sellers as an entrepreneur in Pasar Raya I Salatiga in facing the competition with modern markets.The results indicate that there are several entrepreneurship indicators inherent by these sellers which are the ability to take loans, the ability to accumulate capital, and the ability to diversify and competitive strategies used by these sellers to face the modern markerts is to differentiate.
