REMITEN DAN KINERJA UKM MILIK EKS TENAGA KERJA WANITA (TKW) DI KABUPATEN BANYUMAS

Abstract


SMEs plays important role in Indonesian economic development. Many Indonesian women becoming migrant worker outside the country in order to collect remittances as future capital for funding their SME, but not many research about them. This aims of this research is to find out the relation between remittance and financial performance of SMEs owned by ex women migrant workers.
Mix method research is applied in this research, first by doing quantitative method then continued by qualitative. First, quantitative research are tested the influence of remittance on SMEs capital, overseas work experience, business manager education, firm age and firm size on financial performance. The sample of this research is 32 SMEs owned by formerwomen migrant workers in Banyumas selected using use purposive method. Hypothesis testing was done by the multiple regression analysis and the result shows that there is no influence of remittance on SMEs capital on financial performance but overseas work experience, business manager education, firm age and firm size has influence on financial performance.
Second, qualitative method through in depth interview shows the reason behind quantitative analysis results. It implied that Indonesian migrant workers former not confidence to borrow money for expanding the business even had a chance so financial performance not increased. Other side, most of them are not prepared and not make any real calculation about their assets or revenue and cost, so it’s difficult to realize how much exactly they can earn and their cost.
