Abstract


Limited resources lead to efficiency in their use and production of potentially highest value commodities. As main staple food, hitherto rice is the most important agricultural commodity in Indonesia. Considering significant decrease of available and arable land to cultivate paddy, paddy cultivation should be directed to produce the most valuable rice, which can be considered as distinctive products compared to other produced rices, and organic rice is an answer. Furthermore, producing organic rice basically will also increase farmer product competitiveness. This paper will briefly show a model of organic rice business in Bandung Regency, West Java along its value chain, the potential it has, factors motivating and inhibiting farmers to involve, and strategies to overcome the problems, particularly in ensuring farmer product competitiveness.
