Abstract


Development based on local potential in the area allows a region to produce output which has a comparative advantage (both in terms of raw materials and market location). Such development is expected to boost up the growth of the economy of the region, which in turn can create jobs in the area. This study aimed at examining various factors that influence the success of entrepreneurship programs in rural areas. The method used in this research is a survey method using qualitative and quantitative approaches. The sample in this study are businesses in the countryside. The survey was conducted in several different areas. The number of samples or the respondent in this study is as much as 83 businesses located in rural areas. Data collection method or instruments used in this study encompasses: observation, questionnaires and interviews. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics for the purpose of determining challenges and opportunities in running a business in the countryside. The results showed that There are four factors that affect the likelihood of a person to engage in the business world, including demographic characteristics, business characteristics, business constraints and drivers of business success.
